Executive Contact Bios

Marc Bennett
Marc H. Bennett is President and Chief Executive Officer at HealthInsight, a private, non-profit quality improvement organization (QIO).  HealthInsight holds the Medicare QIO contracts for Utah and Nevada as well as numerous other private contracts and grants related to health care quality in both states and nationally.  The company employs a staff of approximately 60 FTEs and about 200 physician consultants.

Nationally, Mr. Bennett currently serves as President of the American Health Quality Association (AHQA), the trade association for QIOs.  He began his term in February 2007.  He is also a member of the Board and Executive Committee of AHQA and previously served as Chair of the AHQA CEO Section.  He has also served previously on the Board of Directors of Q-mark, Inc., a company which provides HEDIS reporting software and support to health plans and other purchasing groups across the country.

In Utah, Marc is currently Chair of the Utah Patient Safety Steering Committee, the coordinating committee for statewide quality and safety initiatives in the state.  He also serves on the Board of the Utah Health Information Network (UHIN), a successful statewide health information exchange.  Mr. Bennett has served a member of the Advisory Board of the Matheson Center for Health Care Studies at the University of Utah.  He has also previously served on the Board of Directors of the Utah Public Health Association and the Skyline Clinic, a non-profit experimental primary care clinic in Ephraim Utah.  In addition, he has served as a member of the Utah State Health Policy Options Commission Workgroup on Quality and the Quality Technical Advisory Group of the Utah Health Policy Commission.  He also chaired the Subcommittee on Quality of Governor Leavitt’s Utah HealthPrint evaluation project.  In Nevada, he serves as a member of the Nevada Center for Patient Safety Governing Committee.  He has also served as a member of the Nevada State Legislature’s Interim Health Care Committee and as Board Chair for the Shared Health Information Network of Nevada.

Marc is a frequent speaker and presenter in Utah and Nevada as well as nationally on quality and safety topics including Human Factors Science, System Thinking, Design, Transparency and Pay for Performance.

 

Michelle Geis
Michelle Geis
Michelle Geis is the Vice President of Quality Improvement for HealthInsight. Michelle is responsible for leading the organization's quality improvement division, communications division and performance excellence program in Utah and Nevada. As the leader of the organization's quality improvement initiatives, Michelle oversees the management of the Medicare quality improvement contract work and other quality improvement related contracts.

Michelle joined HealthInsight in 1997 as a project coordinator and led the inpatient team efforts in heart failure, pneumonia and patient safety. Her duties then expanded to Director of Quality Improvement for six years. Michelle has a Bachelor of Science in Health Policy and Administration and Business from the Pennsylvania State University and a Masters of Healthcare Administration from the University of South Carolina.

 

Lance N. Coss, MS, MEd, CGC
Lance Coss has over ten years of experience with HealthInsight, and as the Vice President, Quality Assurance Division, he oversees all assurance-related and review activities for both Nevada and Utah.  He has also contributed extensively to the national Medicare program, serving as the past Chair for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) SDPS Case Review Workgroup (2002-2003), Co-Chair of the American Health Quality Association (AHQA) Case Review/PEPP Network (2000-2002; present) and has been the Chair of the 12-state Coral Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Consortium since 1999.  Lance has also actively represented the QIO community by serving as an invited specialist on multiple CMS Rapid Application Development (RAD)/Joint Application Development (JAD) Teams focused on designing and implementing new information technologies throughout the Medicare program.

Lance holds an undergraduate degree in Biology/Genetics from Pennsylvania State University and two advanced degrees, one in Education and one in Human Genetics, from the University of Pittsburgh.  Prior to joining HealthInsight, Lance earned his board certifications from the American Board of Medical Genetics and the American Board of Genetic Counseling, and spent five years as a Clinical Reproductive Geneticist.  He has an additional 15 years of clinical experience in a variety of areas, including mental health therapy and human sexuality counseling, and has held teaching positions at three different universities.

 

Michael P. Silver, MPH
Mike Silver, MPHMike Silver is Vice President for Strategy & Development at HealthInsight, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for the States of Nevada and Utah.  At HealthInsight, Mike is instrumental in the design, conduct, and analysis of health care quality improvement initiatives.  Since 1997, his interests and duties have increasingly focused on issues related to patient safety and medical error.  He is involved in ongoing study of applications of human factors psychology and organizational safety management principles to patient safety and health care quality improvement.  Prior to coming to HealthInsight, he worked as a research statistician in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Utah.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics (1992) and a Masters of Public Health (1995) from the University of Utah.

 

Daniel Memmott
Dan Memmott is the Vice President for Finance & Administrative Services and serves as Chief Financial Officer for HealthInsight, a private, non-profit Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) with offices in Salt Lake, Las Vegas and Reno. HealthInsight holds the Medicare QIO contracts for Utah and Nevada as well as numerous other private contracts and grants related to health care quality.Dan has served at HealthInsight for 19 years as Controller, Assistant Executive Director, Director of Finance and Administration, and Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services, where he currently oversees the finance and accounting affairs, Human Resources, corporate contracting as well as corporate administrative services.

Dan received his MBA from Indiana University and has over 30 years of business management and leadership experience. Dan currently serves as an officer on the Great Basin Public Health Leadership Institute board of directors as treasurer, on the James Q. Cannon Memorial Endowment board as a trustee and as Treasurer and as a board director and treasurer of Phoenix Services. He has previously served as Chair of the American Health Quality Association's (AHQA) Finance and Human Resources Network.

 

Kim Bateman, MD
Dr. Bateman joined HealthInsight in August of 1999 and currently serves as the Vice President for Medical Affairs. He is responsible for providing clinical leadership for the organization in Utah and for coordinating with Dr. Robert Shreck, Vice President of Medical Affairs in Nevada, to assure HealthInsight’s programs and activities have a sound basis in clinical science and promote transformational improvements in health care.

Dr. Bateman, a family practice physician has been in private and group practice for 29 years in rural Sanpete County, Utah. He has been active on state, national, and international levels to improve or organize health care, serving on the Utah Governor's task forces on cost containment, rural health systems, and graduate medical education. He has been president of the Utah Medical Association and chair of the Council on Long Range Planning and Development of the American Medical Association. He was named Doctor of the Year by the American Academy of Family Practice in 1992.

For years Dr. Bateman had worked on a better idea for providing health care to families who do not have insurance to meet their medical costs. In 2005 he implemented this idea in Ephraim, as a new type of clinic called DirectMD. He was honored for this work, and awarded the Rural Health Project of the Year by the Rural Health Association of Utah in 2005.

 

Robert W. Shreck, MD, MMM, Fellow AAFP
Dr. Robert Shreck is Vice President, Medical Affairs of Nevada for HealthInsight. He is responsible for providing clinical leadership for the organization in Nevada to assure HealthInsight’s programs and activities have a sound basis in clinical science and promote transformational improvements in health care.

As former President of the Nevada State Medical Association (NSMA), Dr. Shreck joined HealthInsight in March of 2003 as Senior Medical Director in Nevada. Since that time, he has been actively involved in the community, developing partnerships with providers and stakeholders. He has led efforts to create a joint membership agreement for HealthInsight with the Nevada State Medical Association. This new partnership has greatly strengthened HealthInsight’s reputation and position with physicians.

Dr. Shreck currently serves on the Board of Directors and as Medical Director for Physicians IPA of Nevada, Medical Director and President of Shreck Family Health Care Center, and Medical Director of Choices lab of Nevada. He has a designation as Voluntary Clinical Faculty for the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

Dr. Shreck has been the recipient of several honors including Nevada Family Physician of the Year and the Harold Lee Feikes Physician of the Year. He is a member of numerous medical affiliations: The American College of Physician Executives, American Medical Association, Nevada State Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, Nevada Academy of Family Physicians and Las Vegas Chapter, Clark County Society Medical Society, Board of Trustees, Nevada Center for Patient Safety, American Medical Directors Association.
