Current Activities
UMA / UDOH
The Utah Medical Association and the Utah Department of Health, in partnership with HealthInsight, our state’s quality improvement organization, are working to increase the number of physicians who are able to manage their own clinical information with electronic medical records (EMR). More and more clinics are either considering, or have actually taken the important steps to fully implement these increasing critical tools. They see the value of an EMR in their practices so they can:
- Have faster and better access to patient information
- Have reference material and decision support tools at the point of care
- Reduce the risk of errors and improve overall quality of care
- Create a more efficient practice
- Improve billing accuracy
- Address concerns of liability and fraud through improved documentation
- Reduce transcription costs and reclaim space now occupied by paper charts
To date, more than 70 clinics have joined this initiative.
UVPN
Utah Valley Physician's Network (UVPN) is an IPA, with most of the non-Intermountain Utah Valley clinics participating (including Central Utah Clinic). They are interested in tracking how well they are doing on quality measures. They eventually would like to use the measure results for P4P, and approach the insurers once they have their measurement tracking system in place. Measures are selected for 15 different specialties, each collecting 1 measure. Providers will enter data directly into the system, with the exception of a few EMR clinics that will be providing files to us. The work will utilize a web on the front end through Lotus Notes, and a database on the back end of SQL Server.
