| The 100,000 Lives Campaign is an initiative sponsored by the Institute
for Health Care Improvement (IHI), and supported by numerous national and
local health care organizations, with the purpose of enlisting thousands
of hospitals to implement changes proven to improve patient care and prevent
avoidable deaths. The campaign has started with these six changes: |
- Deploy Rapid Response Teams…at the first sign of patient decline
- Deliver Reliable, Evidence-Based Care for Acute Myocardial Infarction…to
prevent deaths from heart attack
- Prevent Adverse Drug Events (ADEs)…by implementing medication reconciliation
- Prevent Central Line Infections…by implementing a series of interdependent,
scientifically grounded steps called the “Central Line Bundle”
- Prevent Surgical Site Infections…by reliably delivering the correct
perioperative care
- Prevent Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia…by implementing a series of
interdependent, scientifically grounded steps called the “Ventilator
Bundle”

As the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Utah and Nevada, HealthInsight is registered in the IHI campaign as a “node” in both states,
helping to raise awareness and activity around the 100K Lives Campaign.
HealthInsight fully supports the campaign and has encouraged participation
from hospitals in both states to participate, share information related
to the campaign and, highlight hospital successes and lessons learned.
| As a “node” for this campaign, HealthInsight will: |
- Identify participating hospitals and their specific activities around
the IHI defined interventions and offer our expertise where needed.
- Identify and recognize excellence in Utah and Nevada hospitals, making
the results of the campaign visible to other hospitals, media and community
stakeholders.
- Encourage community stakeholder participation by increasing awareness
of the campaign and identifying opportunities for collaboration and learning.
