Announces that Utah and Nevada Hospitals Participating in the 100,000 Lives Campaign Have Saved an Estimated

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) announced the results of the 100,000 Lives Campaign on Wednesday, June 14th at 9:00 am from the International Hospital Summit on Redesigning Hospital Care, in Atlanta, Georgia. Utah and Nevada hospitals have participated in the campaign since its inception date of December 14, 2004. This campaign has been an exciting and challenging effort to prevent 100,000 unnecessary deaths by dramatically improving patient care. Many Utah and Nevada hospitals signed up for the campaign can be proud of the extraordinary results the campaign has produced. Hospitals enrolled in the 100,000 Lives Campaign have collectively prevented an estimated 122,342 avoidable deaths, and equally as important, have begun to institutionalize new standards of care that will continue to save lives and improve health outcomes into the future. Locally, we can estimate a total of 494 lives saved in Utah and a total of 375 lives saved in Nevada, for a grand total contribution to the campaign at an astonishing 869 lives! Congratulations to all of our participating hospitals!
HealthInsight, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Utah and Nevada, has endorsed the Campaign locally. HealthInsight has functioned throughout the campaign as a “Node,” playing a key role in the implementation of the Campaign and remaining as an ongoing force for change in the healthcare system. Additionally, HealthInsight has provided technical expertise, statewide collaborative workshops, Web-based conferences, and on-site consultation for participating hospitals.
