HOME ► Patient Safety in Nursing Homes and Hospitals ► Surgical and Heart Failure Care in Hospitals Surgical and Heart Failure Care in Hospitals Read Local Success Stories Improving Surgical and Heart Failure Care in Nevada and Utah Hospitals As part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) 9th Scope of Work (SOW), HealthInsight is working with Nevada and Utah hospitals to improve the quality and safety of care that patients receive in several areas. The Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) The SCIP/heart failure improvement work is one component of the CMS National Patient Safety Initiative (NPSI) that is designed to address areas of patient harm for which there is evidence of how to improve safety by improving health care processes and systems. Thirteen Nevada Hospitals and ten Utah hospitals are collaborating with each other and HealthInsight to improve care in nine specific areas (list of measures can be a link here—we have them on the rankings section of our website)). During the project, these hospitals will also conduct patient safety culture surveys, submit data to the Clinical Data Warehouse, and implement changes that have been shown to be effective in improving care for patients requiring surgical and heart failure care.
