HOME ► Patient Safety in Nursing Homes and Hospitals ► Pressure Ulcers Pressure Ulcers Toolbox | Pressure Ulcer Reduction Initiative Pressure ulcers are a common problem in all provider settings and are especially harmful to the elderly population. A pressure ulcer can develop in as little as two hours, and are especially harmful for patients that are clinically compromised. Pressure injuries can take months, even years to heal and can lead to unnecessary chronic pain and suffering, infection, and even death. HealthInsight has been working on pressure ulcers in the nursing home community for many years helping to reduce the pain and suffering these debilitating injuries can cause. The Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) has recognized pressure ulcers more as a community issue and not one that belongs solely to long term care facilities and has set the improvement of pressure ulcers as a national priority. For more information about the work HealthInsight is facilitating in regards to pressure ulcers, please contact Jackie Buttaccio at (702) 385-9933 or via email at nursinghomesnv@healthinsight.org. |
