Utah Remaking American Medicine Coalition (URAMC)
HealthInsight and KUED are working together to encourage Utahns to tune in in October and start a dialogue around the four-part PBS series “Remaking American Medicine..Health Care for the 21st Century”.

URAMC was formed to identify areas where concerned organizations and individuals can impact the quality of our local healthcare. Twenty-nine people representing more than two dozen organizations have joined the efforts to make a difference. Significant accomplishments of the coalition include:

Defined a local priority: Encouraging full partnership between patients and providers. Help yourself to Better Healthcare!
Previewed the PBS segments and prepared information for Utah viewers to supplement the series
Developed a trifold informational piece that helps individuals become partners in their own healthcare. The brochure, available in English or Spanish, has an individual health record that can be used in consultation with care providers. URAMC will host a screening of important segments of "Champions of Change: A National Symposium on improving Health Care" held at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) in Washington, D.C. on September 27, 2006. KUED will record this satellite event. An audience of invited guests will participate in a facilitated dialogue following the screening. Remaking Utah Healthcare…A little at a time
Remaking American Medicine will be aired in Utah on Sundays in October on local PBS stations, KUED in the Salt Lake City area. For more information on viewing times please visit www.kued.org.

Remaking American Medicine, Nevada
In Las Vegas, HealthInsight is partnering with Vegas PBS to produce public service messages featuring five local Champions of Change in Southern Nevada that will air prior to and during the broadcast in October. The station is also planning to re-run the series in January 2007, and couple the re-run with a Town Hall meeting and other outreach activities still to be determined.

In Reno, HealthInsight partnered with KNPB, the Reno PBS affiliate to produce one-minute clips featuring five local Champions of Change in Northern and Rural Nevada. The clips will be used throughout the broadcast of Remaking American Medicine in October and throughout the remainder of the year to promote their yearlong Campaign "In Pursuit of Health." The station will also produce a special edition of Open Line, a live call-in show on Sunday, October 15th. Panelists will feature additional local Champions of Change whose work aligns with the series' themes.
